Using Alternative Energy
Technology to Decrease the Need for Convenient
Fuels
Today, between 5% and 6% of all water treatment plants in
the United States are depending on various types of renewable
energy. Just imagine, if an alternative energy
technology could be developed to increase the use of
renewable energy for water treatment but other uses such as
electricity, the world would be a better and cleaner place.
Although it is unlikely that the world would ever run solely on
an alternative energy technology for renewable power, it is
feasible that the use of coal and oil would decrease.
Although many scientists have been involved with various
alternative energy technologies, some at Penn State have made a
remarkable discovery that bacteria of all things could generate
electricity. Recently findings specific to an alternative
energy technology has actually made it possible for bacteria to
live on sludge, which in turn can produce needed
electricity.
Using bacteria to produce energy would end up being a very
cost efficient and effective means of saving money but also
depending on more conventional type of electricity production.
In fact, many experts believe that with the right alternative
energy technology, every waste treatment plant in the country
would have ample power but without harmful toxins being emitted
into the atmosphere such as the problem with standard fossil
fuel.
In addition to bacteria, the truth is that this is not the
only alternative energy technology being looked at. More and
more, discoveries are being made such as a way of producing
biodiesel along with ethanol and methanol. Therefore, if
companies were to make a financial and resource investment into
learning more, the future of the plant would be secure. This
would also yield significant profits in that these business
leaders would be considered pioneers in the field of
alternative energy resources.
The production of biomass and biodiesel using an alternative
energy technology has proven to help. Known as biotechnology,
using an alternative energy technology the right way would make
it possible for biomass to be turned into usable fuel from
which methane and ethanol would be produced. Both of these
byproducts are important and today, already being used to fuel
automobiles although on a small scale.
Look at solar power as a great example. Solar power comes
from the sun, making it readily available and free. Again,
solar power is only be used on a small scale but with an
increase for an alternative energy technology, it is expected
that the sun would be able to produce a significant amount of
power that could benefit people all over the world for light,
air conditioning, heat, and even running appliances. With the
right efforts, solar power could result in being the number one
alternative energy resource.
